Our academy

A heritage shophouse, a modern classroom

Harbourline began in 2017 with four students around one table on Lebuh Gereja. Today we teach hundreds of learners each term — in our George Town studio and live online to every corner of Malaysia — but the promise has not changed: you talk more than the teacher does.

  • Every lesson is live and interactive — never pre-recorded.
  • Group lessons are recorded so you can revisit anything you missed.
  • A certificate of completion documents every finished course.
The difference

What sets Harbourline apart

Tiny groups

Never more than six learners in a class, so you speak in every single lesson — not once a fortnight.

Coaches, not lecturers

Our tutors are trained to correct kindly and push gently. You will make mistakes here — that is the point.

Progress you can see

A placement check at the start, a milestone review every four weeks, and a certificate when you finish.

Studio or screen

Join us on Lebuh Gereja or from your sofa. Same tutors, same materials, same results.

Student voices

Words from our learners

"I joined for Business English before a job interview in Singapore. Three months later I got the offer — and I answered every question without freezing once."

Wei Lun T.Business English, George Town

"My daughter used to hide when relatives spoke English to her. Now she narrates her whole day in it. The Saturday kids class is the highlight of her week."

Nurul A.Young Learners parent, Butterworth

"I take the online conversation class from Kota Kinabalu. It honestly feels like sitting in the room — the tutor notices everything, even on video."

Melissa J.Everyday Conversation, online

"Went from Band 5.5 to 7.0 in one term of exam prep. The weekly mock tests were brutal and exactly what I needed."

Arvind R.Exam Preparation, Bayan Lepas

Good to know

Questions, answered

How do I know which course is right for me?
Book a free trial lesson. During the trial we run a short, relaxed placement check — a chat, not a test — and then recommend a course and level. You decide from there; there is no obligation to enrol.
Are lessons online, in person, or both?
Both. Every course runs at our George Town studio and as a live online class. You can even mix the two — many Penang-based students attend in person on weekends and online midweek.
How big are the groups?
Six learners maximum, no exceptions. Smaller groups mean more speaking time for you, which is the single biggest driver of progress.
What if I miss a lesson?
Group lessons are recorded, so you can catch up before the next session. One-to-one students can simply reschedule with 24 hours notice at no charge.
Do you issue certificates?
Yes. Every completed course comes with a certificate of completion stating the course, level and hours studied — useful for employers and university applications.
How long is one course?
A standard term is 10 weeks with two 90-minute lessons per week. Exam Preparation runs more intensively at three sessions per week, and One-to-One Coaching is fully flexible.
